A custom piece of furniture should solve a specific need, not just fit into a gap. Before asking for price, describe how it will be used and what elements will accompany it. A work table, an outside bench and a shelf require different decisions.

Measures of use and access

Note exterior dimensions and free space for people, doors and cleaning. Check how the piece will enter the building and if it needs to be manufactured in modules. A structure that fits in its final position may not pass through the access.

Loads and stability

Explains what will be supported on the part and how it will be used. Do not improvise load capacities from profile size. Stability, joints, supports and possible fixations should be assessed in the design, especially in high or intensely used furniture.

Define who contributes each component

If there will be wood, glass or other materials, it clarifies whether they are included in the order or provided by another professional. Their dimensions and fixings must be coordinated. It is also advisable to foresee how they will be dismantled or replaced without damaging the structure.

Finishing, cleaning and contact

Define whether the furniture will be inside or outside, which faces will be seen and what maintenance will be accessible. Ask to check edges, contact points and floor protection. A nice finish in a sample does not solve by itself the behavior of the entire piece.
